The following day (Thursday) started with torrential rain. By the time we were done with our delicious breakfast, the rain had subsided. We visited the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. The museum has a lot of information on shipbuilding, particularly of wooden ships. They still have a working shop where they build small boats; that section was particularly interesting. After leaving the museum, we picked up our cameras and the Inn and went to Popham Beach. The Southwest end of the beach was eroded away by a storm last year, and the storm overnight certainly added to that.
There was still a strong wind, which created large (10'+) waves.
The lighthouse in the above picture is Pond Island Lighthouse.
The lighthouse in the next picture is Seguin Lighthouse. This is the highest lighthouse in Maine, and is often seen in our pictures from Boothbay Harbor.
This stone will inspire ghost stories!
We stayed for the sunset. On Friday, we headed home, driving the scenic route and staying along the coast while in Maine. We stopped at Wolfe Neck State Park, which has a lovely walk through the woods and Osprey nests on the nearby island.
This brought us through Cape Porpoise. That is Goat Island Lighthouse in the background.
Anne took Paul to a favorite spot of hers, Marginal Way in Ogunquit, which ends at Perkin's Cove.
At the end of this trip report, we will leave you with a couple final views of the ocean.
