Hendricks Head and Ocean Point

Adjacent to Boothbay Harbor, to the west, is Southport Island. Privately owned Hendrick's Head Lighthouse is on this island. It is difficult to photograph because it is at an isolated point of private property.

Shallow water wraps around a small island, and in the distance a white lighthouse with a red roofed house is on a point of land.

A closer view of Hendricks Head Lighthouse, with a square tower, white walls, and a red roof.

But the public beach area is pretty in its own right.

A beach is angling away and to the right. There is a tiny rocky island sticking out from the shallow water. In the distance on the right can be seen a lighthouse.

Shallow water with seaweed extends out to deeper water and some rocks.

A sand beach has a couple of pieces of driftwood on it, and the harbor water has little ripples and is not reflecting the clouds that are in the sky.

A beach that has many large rocks in it. The tide is out, and wet sand can be seen near the water.

It makes that far away lighthouse less important.

Rocks extend out to seaweed which extends out to water. In the distance on the right is a lighthouse.

Seaweed in water is in the foreground, then clear water. On the left is a small island, and on the right is a lighthouse.

Adjacent to Boothbay Harbor, to the east, is East Boothbay and Ocean Point. One of the first sights you see when reaching Ocean Point is Ram Island Lighthouse.

Past some water breaking lightly on small rocks, and then more open water, a lighthouse and a small house can be seen. Fog obscures another building on the island.

A close view of a light tower on the right with the associated house on the left. Water is in the foreground.

A bird stretches its wings while on the water, and in the distance is a lighthouse.

Between Ocean Point and Ram Island is tiny Green Island.

Water below, blue sky with white clouds above, and some islands in the middle.

Green Island has consistently had an osprey nest on it for many years. The tree the birds were using broke in a storm, but they adapted and are using a shorter tree now. It is on the far right of the island.

An island that is mostly rocks, but with a cluster of trees on the right.

Last year we saw an additional bird of prey at Ocean Point: a bald eagle. The bad storms on the coast of Maine over the winter season took down the tree that eagle had used as a perch.

The golden light of a setting sun is on the weathered roots of an uprooted tree.

Looking off into the distance from ocean point other lighthouses are visible: Cuckold Lighthouse (which is off of Southport Island) and, much further, Seguin Light (which is off of Popham Beach). It still amazes us that we can see Seguin from here. From Ocean Point to the ferry port in Popham for a ride to Seguin is a drive of over 45 miles, but even as the osprey flies it is almost 11 miles. (Cuckolds is about 3.5 miles as the osprey flies.)

2 lighthouses. one closer and one much further away.

Ocean Point is a favorite spot for us to watch the sun set.

Paul is standing on rocks on the left, with his tripod. Rocks are also on the right. There is a large tidepool in the front, and then more open water. The sun is setting over land on the opposite shore.

Sky Blue Pink above, rocks and water below.

The low sun reflects off the window of a house on the right of the picture, with rocks and water making up most of the photo.

An expansive sky over water and a rocky shore, with the sun setting over land on the opposite side.

The sun is just above the horizon, causing a trail of light on the water.

After sunset, with an orange glow on the horizon. Rocks, waters, and the outline of trees can be seen.

The sun is mostly behind the horizon and is casting a lovely glow on the water and the sky.

The sun has just set, and fog is moving in, obscuring the view of rocks, water, and trees.

After sunset, there is still a glow on the clouds and the water can be seen.
