From the small parking lot for the Brainard Marsh preserve, a path leads through the woods. After an optional detour to a small pond (which was flooded when we went) the path continues to a lovely shore and harbor area on the Weweantic River.
Strong spring growth was evident.
These Common Terns had success with their breakfast.
There was a stand with an active Osprey nest close to the beach. The proximity of the Osprey nest allowed a great view of the Osprey landing with a new stick to augment the nest. (If you put your mouse cursor over the photo, the slideshow will pause.)
Although a small spot, it was definitely a worthwhile visit.
Update 2021: We visited this preserve again the following spring. We were there alone, but there had obviously been a visitor earlier in the morning.
Along the path from the parking area to the water were (laminated) pages of a book, 'Water is Water'. This photo includes the back side of some of the pages, leading back into the woods.
The beach:
The Osprey was there but did not give us a show like he did last year (in the above slide show).
We saw some other birds, though, who leant themselves to cute pictures. First, this is probably a Greater Yellow Leg:

This Gull has what should be a fairly good meal:
