Cuckold, Winter 2025(Southport Island page 1)

Southport Island sits off of Boothbay Harbor, connected by a bridge. Of the tip of the island is Cuckold Light. (There are pictures from 2022 here, and a couple from 2016 here.) For a while an inn opened up in the lighthouse building, but that closed prior to the pandemic. The light is still in use, but the adjacent building is looking worse for wear.

This is a view of Cuckold Lighthouse, with the light one, and waves crashing against the rocks.

It is still an impressive lighthouse, particularly at sunrise.

Cuckold Lighthouse has the orange of an early morning sky behind it. Some birds are flying over the rocks that are between us and the lighthouse.

The sea smoke shines in the morning sun. (In case you aren't familiar with it, sea smoke is caused by the very cold air passing over the warmer water. In this case the air was -4° F.)

The rising sun is on the left, and Cuckold light is on the right. Nearby some sea smoke rises off of the water.

Speaking of impressive, the light in the morning can be very pretty, sometimes providing the 'famous' sky-blue-pink color.

A small island with a dock is seen in the soft morning light. Some birds are in the water.

A red and stone house is covered with snow in the soft light of the morning sun.

A pink glow is in the sky and is reflected on the water.

Even in January working boats such as ferries and lobster boats are out on the water.

A ferry boat is traveling quickly and sending up water in its wake. It is appproaching Cuckold Lighthouse.

A small boat is slowly traveling through the sun trail reflected on the water.

A few more morning pictures from the Newagen Town Landing, which is the viewing point for the lighthouse. When we were there the morning we left to go home, a young man had driven an hour to see the sunrise despite the cold and very windy weather.

The red house is on the left and the small island is on the right. In the distance Seguin can be seen. The sky is pink and azure.

Snow covers the ground on the right, while in the middle of the picture are buoys in water.

The sun is rising on the left and the outline of Cuckolds can be seen on the right.

A bird is standing on the edge of a rock in water, while steam rises up from the water.

Early morning sun is shining on an island at low tide. On the right is a red house with white trim.

Looking southwest reveals Seguin Light, about 7.5 miles away. It does not look that far!

A soft pink sky is reflected in the water, and in the distance a lighthouse on a tall island can be seen.

Now you see it ...

This is a closer view of the Seguin lighthouse, with rough water and a couple of buoys in the foreground.

and now you don't.

A large wave obscures the view of Seguin.

Newagen Inn was quiet, but if you look closely you can see some tracks in the snow.

A large inn building is on the right, and smaller buildings can be seen among trees on the left. Snow is covering the ground. There is water in the foreground.

On a day when we decided to take sunset pictures there, we arrived a bit before the sunset.

A Cybertruck is parked at Newagen Town Landing.

Fortunately braving the cold weather was worth it since the sunset was pretty that day.

The large glow of the setting sun is behind some clouds, and an island with trees is light from behind.

The setting sun outlines trees on an island.

The setting sun reveals some rough water and an island with trees.

The setting sun, on the left, reflects on the glass of a house on the right. The sky is orange and the water is dark.

A bright orange and yellow sky fades off into darkness.

We will continue on a new page for more Southport pictures.
